Hollywood has a rich history of hard-drinking, dirty-fighting and tough-lovin’ men. Take the residents of ‘Bad Boy Hill’ on Mulholland Drive—serial womanisers Jack Nicholson (nicknamed ‘The Great Seducer’), Marlon Brando and Warren Beatty, the latter having supposedly slept with nearly thirteen thousand women, according to one unofficial biography.
Going back even further, there’s leather jacket-clad rebel James Dean, four-time divorcee Cary Grant (rumoured to be heavy-handed with his wives), notorious philanderer Clark Gable, and crooner-turned-actor Bing Crosby, who had problems with alcohol and developed an addiction to marijuana. Yet despite their wild streaks, each actor either became a beloved screen icon or sustained an extremely successful film career—so why do today’s bad boys seem so straightjacketed?
