PRE-PARTY PREP
It’s 3am, you’re meandering home post-merrymaking, eyeliner decomposing in dried-up clumps and skin looking less than fab, having lost its get-up-and-glow. We’ve all been there before: party season equals late nights and varying levels of sobriety, a fun but deadly formula that’s never kind to your complexion. So when prepping for a night out with the girls (or boys), arm yourself with a few must-haves to supercharge your skin with a healthy flush and ensure longue tenue makeup that lasts through the night, sans smudging or streaking.
1. MOISTURISE MUCH?
Indulge in a hydrating spa treatment the day before, or for something a little easier on the wallet, opt to apply a hydrating mask at home. Also add a few extras to your skincare arsenal: a gentle exfoliating scrub instead of your normal cleanser to bring on a healthy radiance, and a hydrating serum that permeates the inner levels of skin, rejuvenating and boosting skin’s moisture levels. And never skip the eye cream—use a hydrating formulation around the upper and lower lids that plumps the delicate skin around the eye area.
2. OPTIMAL PRIME
Primer does amazing things in prepping your skin for foundation—it creates a perfect canvas by reducing fine lines and pores for a flawless, velvety-smooth face and increases the longevity of your foundation exponentially. Post moisturising, apply a dime-sized amount onto skin with your fingers, sweeping it lightly over your entire face. We love Smashbox Photo Finish Primers that come in a myriad of oil-free, colour correcting and hydrating formulas for decadently effortless foundation application.
3. CHOOSE WISELY
Invest in makeup that is long-lasting or waterproof for late nights out—you don’t need foundation with such super high coverage it makes you look like a vampy extra from Twilight, only something that stays on for the most of the night. Especially when it comes to mascara and eyeliner, get the waterproof kind that won’t start running astray from sweating it out on the dance floor. Apply lip liner on the entire lip followed by a lip stain instead of lipstick, and seal in your makeup by dusting your face with loose powder to lock in foundation, blusher and bronzer.
