This weekend, the fashion world mourned the passing of the irrepressible Loulou de la Falaise, model, designer, and the muse of the legendary Yves Saint Laurent – according to reports, Loulou’s androgynous charm actually inspired the designer’s famous tuxedo and the see-through blouses for which he was famed. She never really enjoyed being described as a muse, however. “For me, a muse is someone who looks glamorous but is quite passive, whereas I was very hard-working,” she said in a 2010 interview. ”I worked from 9am to sometimes 9pm, or even 2am. I certainly wasn’t passive.”
Loulou spent more than three decades designing jewellery and accessories for Yves Saint Laurent before launching her own fashion business, with ready-to-wear, costume jewellery and accessories sold in the US and Paris.
