    1st Aug–10thSept BBC Proms 2011, UK
    The greatest and most well-known classical music festival in the world. The performances are held almost daily in some of London’s premier locations like the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal College of Music. August highlights include performances by Tasmin Little, Nigel Kennedy, Sir Richard Ronney Bennett, as well as piano titan Marc-André Hamelin paying a bicentenary year tribute to Lizst.



    4th – 7th Aug Food, Sex & Death
    KLPAC’s T4YP (Theatre for Young People) presents a series of short plays as part of their 2011 season. Directed by Christopher Ling, playwrights Desmond Sim and Nandang Abdul Rahman explore the intricacies of three things we can’t live without.

     

    9th Aug National Women’s Day
    Celebrated annually in South Africa, it is a public holiday in the nation to commemorate the 1956 march of women against the pass laws.




    22nd – 26th Aug Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival, Australia

    23rd – 27th Aug Central Park Film Festival, New York
    With this year’s theme ‘Great Music’, join hundreds of Manhattanites and tourists alike in Central Park. The festival will pay tribute to a different American music icon each night through films that celebrate the best of the music industry.

    28th–29th London’s Notting Hill Festival
    Arguably the most exciting festival in the UK, the Caribbean celebration attracts a million people yearly to the famous district in London. Revellers take to the streets for two days of street dancing, events and parades complete with amazing costumes.



    30th – 31st Aug Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration
    As the fasting month draws to a close, look forward to open house celebrations with friends and family.
